Radiographic Testing of Materials
Radiographic Testing of Materials
DEKRA performs Radiographic Testing (RT) of materials to detect defects in base materials, welds and materials in heat affected zones (HAZ) or of potentially dangerous equipment, constructions and pipelines.
About Radiographic Testing
Radiographic testing (RT) of materials is a non-destructive testing method that examines the full volume of a specimen. X-rays or gamma-rays are used to produce a radiograph of the specimen showing any changes in thickness or detect defects (on the surface or in the volume). X-rays are produced by an X-ray tube and gamma rays are produced by an isotope.
DEKRA performs radiographic testing of materials for quality control during manufacturing and welding and for volumetric inspections of components, castings etc. Furthermore, DEKRA uses radiographic testing boiler inspections of plates and or pipes, for pipe inspections, to detect defects in welds and corrosion as well as blockage.
Defects that can be detected include cracks, slag, pores and porosity, inclusions and lack of fusions. DEKRA has a variety of isotope sources and x-ray machines available in different countries like:
- Se75 Isotope for steel 5 to 20mm
- Ir192 Isotope for steel 10 to 50mm
- Co60 Isotope for steel 25 to 200mm
- X-Rays for steel various thicknesses
DEKRA’s radiographic testing specialists are certified according to ISO 9712 and we meet the following testing standards: GOST 7512-82, ISO 17636-1:2013, LISO 17636-2:2013, PNAE G-7-017-89.
